About Our Founder, President & CEO

Lora Spencer is the visionary Founder, President & CEO of Corporate Counsel on Course. With a profound commitment to professional and personal development, Lora has been instrumental in ushering in a new era for corporate counsel and C-Suite executives. Her leadership is characterized by a forward-thinking approach that emphasizes career strategies, network expansion through meaningful relationship development, and the prioritization of health and wellness.

Lora serves in dual roles as Chief Legal Counsel (Mechanical Circulatory Support “MCS”)  and as Senior Global Litigation & Investigations Counsel at Medtronic, a leading global medical technology company focused on alleviating pain, restoring health, and extending life.  As Chief Legal Counsel Lora advises and counsels senior business stakeholders on complex legal issues, and in her role as Senior Global Litigation & Investigations Counsel, she defends Medtronic in high stakes products liability, complex commercial litigation and robotic surgical technologies matters, inter alia. Her dedication to the legal profession is evident through Lora’s active participation, accolades, and leadership roles throughout her 25 years in the life sciences industry, internal and external to Medtronic,  which includes serving in the public sector at the National Institutes of Health – the world’s largest research institute, and during her tenure in private practice at a Top 25 global law firm. 

Further, Lora is an active member of Medtronic’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Legal Practice group, Medtronic’s outside counsel network committee, where she formerly served as a steering committee member, and is a member of Medtronic’s Legal Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity committee, where she previously  served as  Chair of External Engagement.

Indeed, Lora's accolades are a testament to her exceptional contributions and leadership and are recognized more broadly. She is a Johnson & Johnson Board Fellow alumna  (2024-2025), Salmon P. Chase College of Law Distinguished Alumna Award recipient(2024), a Medtronic Leadership Council on Legal Diversity Fellow nominee (2023), and a Leadership Council on Legal Diversity Fellow (2023).  Additionally, she has been recognized by Corporate Counsel Women, Influence & Power in Law as a two-time honoree (2022, 2023), received the National Bar Association President’s Award (2022), and appointed a Leadership Council on Legal Diversity Pathfinder (2020). She is also a frequent invited chair, co-chair, speaker and panelist at industry conferences domestic and abroad. She  serves as a life sciences advisory board member to the American Conference Institute (“ACI”) and frequently speaks or co-chairs at ACI premier life sciences conferences such as Women Leaders in Life Sciences (in Boston), the AI Summit (New York City), and the annual Drug & Medical Device Litigation conference (New York, City)  Further, Lora is recognized internationally for her thought leadership, speaking on Artificial Intelligence and Products Liability at the International Bar Association’s (“IBA”) 10th Annual World Life Sciences Conference, in Madrid, Spain (2024), and  in Paris, France (2023) also on an Artificial Intelligence.

Driven by a sustained passion for life sciences, Lora currently serves on the board of an early-stage private life sciences company and aspires to one day serve on a publicly traded corporate board within the life sciences sector or other industries. She aims to leverage her expertise, strategic insight, and divers, transferable skills to meaningfully contribute to an organization’s mission, vision, and long-term growth.

Lora resides in Houston Texas, is an impassioned golfer, as sports and  travel enthusiast, a continuous student of professional and personal development, and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
